GONE : Where Heritage Meets Purpose
Stellenbosch. Dorp Street.
A heritage shell reimagined for a future-focused story.
For GONE., the sole distributor of Patagonia in South Africa, we brought this space to life with a clear intention: to create a retail environment that fully embodies the brand’s DNA, values, and environmental commitment.
A Space Guided by Purpose
From the outset, our approach was rooted in respect, both for the existing building and for the principles Patagonia stands for. Rather than over-designing, we focused on restraint, allowing the space to evolve through thoughtful, considered interventions.
Most fixtures were reclaimed, reducing the need for new production while adding depth and authenticity. Where new elements were introduced, they were crafted in their rawest form, minimising excessive manufacturing and lowering environmental impact.
The result is a space that feels honest, intentional, and aligned with a more conscious way of building.
Heritage Meets a Natural Palette
The existing timber elements played a central role in shaping the interior language. Rich, warm, and inherently tactile, they ground the space in its heritage context.
To balance this, we introduced a light, natural palette, softening the interior and creating a sense of openness and ease. The contrast allows the materials to breathe, resulting in an environment that feels both breezy and grounded.

Bringing the Outdoors In
For GONE., every detail was carefully considered to create a space that feels connected to the outdoors.
- Custom peg walls offer flexible, functional display systems
- Timber joinery adds warmth and permanence
- Curated shelving and layered displays create rhythm and flow
- Natural greenery introduces life and softness throughout
Framed adventure imagery reinforces the spirit of exploration, subtly connecting product to place and purpose.

A Thoughtful Retail Experience
We brought this space to life as more than a store, it’s an experience shaped by materiality, storytelling, and intention.
Textured surfaces, tactile finishes, and carefully composed product displays work together to create a retail environment that feels immersive yet effortless. Every element serves a purpose, contributing to a cohesive and meaningful customer journey.
When Ethos Leads, Design Follows
At TDC&Co, we value partnerships where purpose and design are intrinsically linked.
GONE. Stellenbosch is a reflection of this philosophy, where sustainability is not an afterthought, but a foundation. When ethos leads, design follows naturally, resulting in a space that feels both considered and authentic.

A Space That Reflects the Brand
As the home of Patagonia in South Africa, GONE. needed to resonate with the brand’s global identity while remaining rooted in its local context.
We brought this space to life as a seamless integration of:
- Sustainable thinking
- Heritage architecture
- Contemporary retail design
A space where product, story, and environment come together in quiet harmony.
